For two weeks have talked about those silly, black and white birds that live south of the Equator. This week, we decided to travel to the northern hemisphere and begin talking about BEARS!
We started by reading a tried and true favorite of all generations--Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Throughout the week we read and compared several versions of this classic, and even tried our hand at creating a "three bears" style story of our own!
We also had a porridge taste test!
Try reading any--or all--of these great Three Bear variations at home. Help your child identify as many similarities and differences as possible. Be sure to use the words, characters and setting as you discuss your books.
But our whole week wasn't devoted to the problems of these make believe little bears. We talked about the lives of real bear families too! We participated in some shared reading about bears and all their special features, did some small group research with Ms. Mary Ann about different types of bears, and even did a little independent research using the i-pads this week!

We also played a new math game this week--How Many are Hibernating--using teddy bear counters.
This would a great (and SUPER easy) game to try at home. You could play with anything you have at home: pennies, Legos, stuffed animals, Barbies, etc. Start with a set number of objects. Have your child close their eyes, and remove some of the items. Have your child determine how many are hiding!
We also had a little bit more bear fun, with just a splash of Valentine's Day thrown in during Fun Friday!
